Types of material in this series include business and personal correspondence, proceedings from conventions and conferences, personnel material, minutes and agendas from board of directors' meetings, printed literature, publications, topical papers and reports, and information related to PIM projects and project promotion. This series is a combination of three accessions that contained material of similar subject matter. The records did not appear to be in any specific order. An order was imposed and sub-series were created. They include the history and formation of PIM; minutes and agendas of PIM board meetings; personnel records; records pertaining to PIM project partnering; information about specific mission projects; examples of letters sent for informational and fund-raising purposes; general printed literature of PIM; congregational workshops conducted by PIM; conference and convention proceedings; third-party evaluations of PIM; the transition to the ELCA; and a final sub-series of assorted subjects. This series includes the only copies of the records for the Justice Agendas and the New Lutheran Church Committee (JNLC). This was a working group created to ensure justice be a central issue in the new church formed by the merger of the Lutheran Church in America, The American Lutheran Church, and the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches. The records contain an incomplete set of minutes and agendas for JNLC Steering Committee meetings. In addition to the minutes and agendas, other JNLC records include informational brochures, financial reports, topical papers and printed remarks on social justice issues, and newspaper clippings. Correspondence exists between staff members and Steering Committee members regarding upcoming meetings, developments in the merger process, and other items regarding justice issues JNLC wished to address. An effort was made to remove duplicate materials when contained in the same folder, but some duplicate material may exist in another series.
